Preparing meals in a clean kitchen is always much more pleasant than in a kitchen where dirt and grime accumulate. However, sometimes, despite the fact that our entire kitchen has been thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned, some surfaces seem more difficult to clean. This is particularly the case on cabinets where fat tends to appear over time. Fortunately, we can remove grease from our kitchen surfaces without too much difficulty by using some easy tips and tricks. Here are 5 to remember and try!

1. Try household soap

Quai des Bulles

Although household soap does not smell very good, this soap is a very good tool to use to clean a kitchen. Be aware, however, that you can use it to clean kitchen surfaces only if they are granite or marble. Here’s how to remove grease with your household soap:

  • Make soapy water;
  • Soak a sponge in your soapy water, use your sponge to scrub the dirty cabinets or countertops;
  • Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes;
  • Rinse your surfaces with a clean sponge;
  • Wipe your surfaces. These must be completely dry.

2. Eliminate grease with the vinegar trick

Vinegar is a very practical product. There are many ways you can use it every day, including to degrease kitchen surfaces:

  • In a bowl, pour one litre of water, 4 tablespoons of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of olive oil (or refined sunflower oil);
  • Add a few drops of orange essential oil (optional) to your mixture;
  • Take your mixture and pour it into a spray bottle;
  • Spray your mixture on the surface that needs to be cleaned;
  • Wait between 10 and 15 minutes and then wipe surfaces with a cloth;
  • Repeat if necessary.

3. Test baking soda

Baking soda can also help fight grease on kitchen cabinets or countertops. To take advantage of the properties of this product, here are the steps to follow:

  • Mix baking soda with vegetable oil until a homogeneous paste is obtained;
  • Apply the paste to the grease stains you want to remove;
  • Leave on for 30 minutes;
  • Soak a sponge in water and remove the paste;
  • Repeat if necessary.

You can use this tip to maintain wood surfaces since vegetable oil camouflages scratches and protects wood from scratches.

4. Opt for citric acid

Citric acid is a great ingredient to use to degrease wood surfaces. To do this, all you need to do is mix 1-litre water, 1 tablespoon citric acid and a few drops of detergent. Then, pour some of the mixture on the surface you want to clean and leave it there so it can work its magic. Wipe the surface with a soft cloth or a sponge that you have soaked in water beforehand.
